It is impossible not to be taken aback when you realize that this beach, or more precisely, this cove, is located right in the middle of Biarritz. As you make your way down the steps on either side of the 'Esplanade de la Vierge' to access the beach, you will get the impression that you are entering a private area.
Because it is shielded from the wind and the waves, this location makes it an excellent choice for households with children. Your children will have a new place to play when the tide is out because the rocks to the right are exposed. They will undoubtedly value that this location is kid- and pet-friendly. You will also have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you won't ever lose track of them. Relax and take pleasure in your independence!
The water is usually still, which makes for excellent swimming conditions most of the time. Access to Boucalot Rock and the nearby, precariously unstable Canon Rock is granted to watercraft such as boats and jet skis. There is a prohibition on underwater fishing up to 150 meters from the shore. There is also a free shuttle service that will take you there from the city center. The latter lead out into covered lanes along the water's edge.
The well-known 'Rocher de la Vierge' (Virgin's Rock) can be seen rising to your right, and Gustave Eiffel was the one who designed the walkway that connects the rock to the shore. On your left, you can make out the cliffs that lead down to the Côte des Basques Beach, another breathtaking location along this coast. Don't forget to turn around and take in the breathtaking view of the Goéland Villa.
Arriving in the Dead of Winter? There are likely swimmers in the water at all times, regardless of the weather. The illustrious 'Ours Blancs' swimming club has called the beach at the Vieux Port its home since 1929, and it continues to be a popular destination for people who enjoy swimming in the ocean throughout the year.
Get your appetite going and grab a bite to eat at the rock promontory's café, which features some interesting architectural elements.
